What is Matcha Green Tea?

Matcha is a special variety of green tea that is only grown in certain parts of Japan. Moreover, this tea is cultivated from shade-grown tea leaves. Shade slows down growth, turning the leaves a darker shade of green and causes the production of amino acids that result in a sweeter tea.

After the harvest, the leaves are laid out flat for the drying process. Once they begin to reach the crumble point, they are de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone ground to a powder. At this point, the Matcha powder would appear fine like talc and bright green in color.

Matcha Green Tea contains high amounts of L-theanines – a unique set of natural amino acids found almost exclusively in green tea – as well as tea caffeine theophylline. Together, these substances are thought to help provide increased mental clarity and energy.

Globally, green tea has long been a standard part of a vibrant lifestyle in India, China, Japan and Thailand. In traditional medicine in these countries, practitioners used green tea as a stimulant, diuretic, astringent (to control bleeding and help heal wounds), and to maintain heart health. Other traditional uses of green tea include how it assists in regulating normal body temperature and blood sugar, promotes healthy digestion, and supports mental processes. Today Green Tea is being studied extensively to validate the many ways green tea may be useful to living healthy in today’s world.
